The story of il Ronco begins with a Milanese architect and his family, who decided in 1968 to escape the heat and bustle of the city and move to the country, close to the serene beauty of Italy's most dramatic lake, Lake Como. Together, our family designed our dream home, and every detail was designed and crafted especially for it in the Lombardy Farmhouse style.
Today, 50 years later, il Ronco is still owned by the same family. Its striking tiled roof and its palette of wood and brick offset the deep green of the surrounding forest, while the elegant interiors are comfortable and inviting. Staying at il Ronco offers you the chance to discover life in the Italian lakes - a life that is full of luxury, colour, taste, fragrance and warmth.
Il Ronco has everything you need for a magical stay: luxurious rooms, a wonderful eco-pool and a huge private garden surrounded by forest. The local area offers everything from history and culture to shopping and wonderful restaurants, memorable views, walks through WW1 battlefields and pilgrimage sites. With our chef, you won’t even need to cook!

Enjoy the space
Whilst staying at il Ronco, you will enjoy private use of the new eco-pool, the loggia and the large gardens and woodlands. There are plenty of sun-loungers around the pool, making it a perfect place to work on your tan.
The eco-pool was built in 2020 and is 14m long, 4m wide and 1.4m deep. The water is not treated with any chemicals, but rather is continuously filtered through a series of reed and gravel beds, ensuring clean and natural water that is kind to your skin and eyes.

Explore Italy's Lake District
il Ronco is a very easy drive to Milan and to Lake Como, which was named the most beautiful lake in the world by The Huffington Post. The area is known for its sunny microclimate and its palatial villas as well as flower-laden belvederes.
If the appeal of hanging wisteria and lanterns casting their glow over lakeshore restaurants is your guilty secret, then Bellagio is for you. On the opposite side of the Lake, Menaggio has an equally beautiful promenade with a slightly less touristy approach. There are magnificent walks in the mountains above the lake as well as less strenuous walks by the lake.
If you are a sporting type, there are spectacular mountain biking trails all around the lake, hill climbs that will test any road cyclist’s metal and the top part of the lake is well known for windsurfing. Como has a compact but charming historical centre and boasts excellent restaurants and shopping. Rent an E-bike from Pineta Bike or LakEbike Como. E-bike rentals and tours are available from HC Bike Tours and Como Bike Tours.
The local area boasts a number of designer factory outlets though Milan is where the real retail therapy takes place. For a really special treat, we recommend an aperitif at the world-famous Villa d'Este hotel in Cernobbio, just a 25-minute drive from the house. This is a venerable 5-star hotel on the lakeshore surrounded by magnificent gardens. You will have the best cocktail you've ever had!
